Your Words

Keep thy tongue from evil,
and thy lips from speaking guile.
Psalm 34:14

My daughter and I have been memorizing Psalm 34 and this verse stood out to me.  I was thinking, what would it be like if every member of my church had every word they spoke recorded for a whole month?  I know if my words were recorded for a month, I'd have much to apologize for and to be ashamed of.

There is SO MUCH in the Bible about the tongue.  James says,"the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity" and "the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison."  These are STRONG words spoken about such a little body part!

When the Bible describes how Christian's should conduct themselves, it tells us to have "sound speech, that cannot be condemned;"  Now if we are supposed to watch what we say, should we not also conclude that we are to watch what we hear?

What about what you hear on television, radio, or at the gossip session down at your local church?  Matthew chapter four says to "take heed what you hear".  As Christians, we are to heed the warnings in the Word of God.  (By the way, that's a good word study.  Look up everywhere you see "take heed" in God's Book.)  If you want to save yourself some grief, "Let your speech be alway with grace".

I just wanted to tell you that I am enjoying your blog. I especially am thankful for the verses typed out using the KJV. I loved this short devotional about our words and I am inspired to do a word study myself on the 'take heed's' of the Bible.
I've decided to be a follower.
