Forgetting The Past

Philippians 3:13-14 (King James Version)

"Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."

Have you ever been stuck in the past?  Do your thoughts constantly take you to some scene in your mind that you keep replaying over and over?  Everyone has a past!  Some have more pain and heartache in their past than others.  If you know me personally, you know I have a terrible past.  The good news is that you don't have to STAY in the past!  You can press on with Christ!

Some people have grudges from the past that they like to nurse like little pets.  Come on, the Bible says to let it go!  Did you know that Clara Barton (Founder/President of the Red Cross) did not hold grudges?  When reminded of a wrong done to her in the past, Miss Barton said, "I distinctly remember forgetting that!"

There are many Bible examples of forgetting the past.  One example off the top of my head is Joseph.  Joseph was sold by his brothers and hated.  He later was falsely imprisoned.  When he later in life had a son, he named the boy Manassah, which meant "forgetting".  Joseph said, "God hath made me forget". (Gen 41:51)

Only YOU can make the choice to forget the past and move on!

There are some things we should remember!  What about "this do in remembrance of me" (Luke 22:19)?  We observe the "Lord's Supper" to remember what He did for us when He died on Calvary.  Do you remember what He has done for you?  Has He washed you in His precious blood?  Do you have a new name?

If you start thanking Him for all He has done for YOU, it will help you to forget the past....
