I Tell On Myself
I tell on myself by the friends I seek,
By the very manner in which I speak,
By the way I employ my time.
By the use I make of dollar & dime.
I tell what I am by the things I wear,
By the spirit in which I burdens bear,
By the kind of things at which I laugh.
By the music I play on the phonograph.
I tell what I am by the way I walk,
By the things of which I delight to talk.
By the manner in which I bear defeat,
By so simple a thing as how I eat.
By the books I choose from the well-filled shelf:
In these ways & more, I tell on myself;
So there's really no particle of sense
In an effort to keep up false pretense.
The following verse is my prayer for daily life. I encourage you to pray it as well.
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14
